LMJ's Lost Souls Donated $10,000 to Advocate Health Care's Memory Center

Donated in 2023 and looking to duplicate in 2024…

As a part of their mission to support research and development, LMJ's Lost Souls-Alzheimer's Fund donated $10,000 to the Memory Center at Advocate Health Care's Lutheran General Hospital. This generous contribution aims to enhance the center's ability to diagnose and support patients with memory loss, particularly Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

The Memory Center at Advocate Health Care is dedicated to providing the highest-quality, patient-centered care. Its mission is to diagnose the cause of memory loss, develop a comprehensive plan of care, and offer support to patients and their caregivers throughout their journey. Located on the campus of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, the center employs a sophisticated, multi-disciplinary approach that focuses on treating the whole person.

One of the key initiatives of the Memory Center is early cognitive testing. Early diagnosis of cognitive disorders is crucial, as it allows for timelier interventions and support for patients. However, many patients go undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or experience delays in diagnosis due to limitations in primary care physician (PCP) resources and expertise. To address this gap, the Memory Center has implemented BrainCheck, a digital screening tool, which has been provided to over 50 PCPs to standardize screening methods.

The partnership between LMJ's Lost Souls-Alzheimer's Fund and the Memory Center is particularly impactful. The donation has enabled the center to purchase six additional BrainCheck licenses and two additional iPads for early cognitive testing. This investment is expected to impact over 350 lives by facilitating earlier detection and intervention.

Advocate Health Care, the recipient of this generous donation, is the third-largest nonprofit integrated health system in the United States. Lutheran General Hospital, one of Advocate's flagship hospitals in Illinois, has been a leading health provider in Chicago's North and Northwest Suburbs since 1896. The hospital is renowned for its expertise in neurosciences, cardiology, and oncology, and is consistently ranked among the nation's best hospitals by Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report.

LMJ's Lost Souls-Alzheimer's Fund's donation to Advocate Health Care's Memory Center is a testament to their commitment to finding a cure for those affected by Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. This partnership highlights the importance of early detection and intervention in the treatment of memory disorders and exemplifies the impact of philanthropy in healthcare.
